Islands of the Indian Ocean, such as Madagascar , the Seychelles and Mauritius are sometimes also considered part of Southern Africa because of their accessibility from the region. The region has low-lying coastal areas as well as mountains and is known for its wide diversity of eco-regions, including the worlds largest inland delta (Okavanga in Botswana), forests , grassland , bushveld , savanna and desert. The region also has a significant number of various wildlife species , including rhino , lion , leopard , buffalo , hippo , elephant and many others. One of the most popular holiday activities in Southern Africa is wildlife safaris in search for the big five and other animals. There are game reserves within South Africa , Botswana , Zambia , Namibia and Zimbabwe . They all have lodges ranging from basic camping to five-star luxury.
