Map of Mexico Holidays in Mexico Before the Europeans came, Mexico was the land of the Aztecs and the Mayas and before them many other ancient cultures. You can still find many remains from these magnificent cultures, there are pyramids, temples and ruins from old cities. Mexico is a traveler's paradise, crammed with a multitude of opposing identities, there are desert landscapes, snow-capped volcanoes, ancient ruins, time-warped colonial towns, glitzy resorts, deserted beaches and a world-beating collection of flora and fauna. Where the Caribbean Sea meets the Yucatan Peninsula , coral reefs come alive, with sea creatures, great and small. The Pacific coast attracts elephant seals and spectacular gray whales, who choose Mexico to bread and give birth, year after year. The biggest mass of teeming life in whole of Mexico, is of course its capital, Mexico City , where 20 million people squeeze in together (a fifth of the whole population of Mexico). From May to October it is humid and hot, especially between July and September the southern parts of Mexico can be unbearable unless you only want to be on the beach. From October to May it is dry and warm without being to hot.
